for a couple of years before i started running, i had many aches and pains, sought help from various doctors, and felt very old. the august prior to that first time out, i had difficulty walking and my left foot didn't always move when it should and often dragged. once i did get out and exercise, i started feeling better. i slept better,, was drawn naturally to healthier food choices, and no longer needed medication for fibromialgia pain. It took quite awhile but i finally became comfortable saying 'i am a runner'.
running has improved my health, made me a happier person, and eventually led me to a community of people who understand and share my drive. This gift is what I want to help others find.
What has running brought to your life?
One day, three mays ago, i was angry about something which i had absolutely no control and i ended up taking an unplanned walk. a little more than half a mile out, i started to run, jog actually, only for a minute or less, but oh wow! how great it felt! That was all it took to get me going. Many months, maybe a year, after, i could run a mile without any walking break.. i gradually built my endurance, slow and steady.
